Molly of Denali

PBS KIDS

Bringing the adventures of Alaska to preschoolers

At GBH Kids, I was part of the original team to launch an exciting new IP for PBS Kids. Molly of Denali is an Emmy-Award winning series that features a Native American lead character and highlights important elements of Indigenous culture in Alaska. Through working closely with a group of Alaskan Native advisors, I led the design of several games for 4-8 year olds that authentically represent Native values and the beauty of the natural world.

Super Snowboarder

In this platformer-style game, kids help Molly learn cool new snowboarding tricks + watch informational videos featuring Qyah Elder and snowboarding extraordinaire, Auntie Midge.

Explore with Molly

In this open-world experience, kids navigate around Molly’s village, embarking on adventures big and small! Kids can pick blueberries, go dog-sledding, catch salmon in the river, create traditional Alaskan beadwork, and more. In addition to designing core UI and crafting UX for various experiences within the app, I also conceptualized and designed the “backpack” feature in this game, where kids are given side quests to collect and deliver objects in their backpack to members of the community.

Canoe Quest

Kids learn various Earth science concepts such as tides, currents, and rocks/minerals in this river adventure game. There’s a fun side-scrolling navigation down the river, paired with a fun experience of collecting + sorting unique rocks + stones.
